Immigration Story
The immigration project is about choosing a subject and writing about how they came to the united states. In this project i learned a lot about my subject and how she got to America.
MY story
Even though Maria and her sister were In a desert for five days little food and water, Maria still had hope that she would be able to live the American dream.
Maria was only 17 years old when she came to America with her sister Angelica who's eight years older. They had only brought a backpack with some clothes. Maria and her parents decided she should come to America for a better life because her parents could not afford to pay for her education anymore. Maria already had an older sister living in America but that would not make her journey any less dangerous. First, to get to America Maria had to get on the plane to go to Tijuana Mexico City. When they got to Tijuana they stayed at a terrible, dirty hotel for ten days . On the last day in the hotel Maria's oldest sister, who lived here in America, hired a smuggler to bring them to the United States. On that night the smuggler planned to bring them to San Diego . They had to get to playas de Tijuana to get to Imperial Beach. When they both got to Imperial Beach immigration stopped her and sent her back to Tijuana. At 2 AM they decided to try again, but got caught. From that night on they decided to try every night as many times as they could to get to Imperial Beach safe and sound at least at once they got mistreated by immigration. Maria spend three months trying to get from Tijuana to Imperial Beach. Maria and her sister had a change of plans. Maria and the smuggler and her sister decided to go through the desert with no food or water for three days. They spent five days there. Maria and her sister finally made it to San Diego and met up with her oldest sister. When they got to America they stayed with their oldest sister that was already living here in San Diego. She supported herself and her sisters by working as a housekeeper. Meanwhile Maria went to school. Sometimes her oldest sister took them both to clean houses with her. Years past and Maria's mom came to America and live with her. Maria and her sister came in 1999.
