week 1This week we got to go outside and be creative and take pictures of whatever we wanted. I took pictures of flowers and whatever I found interesting. The pictures I took had a lot of color and some of them were very bright. I got to take pictures of a lot of flowers with different color. I took one photo of rocks with my friend standing on them and I only got her shoes on the rocks. I liked the picture turned out. I wasn't that impressed with it but it was okay. I thought the presentation of how to take pictures was very helpful for me. I took a lot of pictures of flowers and nature.
Humanitieswhile looking at the photo of Elizabeth Eckford I thought about who she might be feeling while walking towards her school. In the picture I could tell that people were giving her mean looks and someone behind her looked like she was screaming at her for no reason.
chemistryWEEK TWOThis week we had to take portraits of someone and we had to have our own portrait taken by someone in our group. In my group I helped on the lighting
hummanitesI think that the peno class is important in our society because without them there wouldn't be any food in the table.
Blog post #9
Weekly Reflection:This week we got to do our independent project, but I wasn't here to do it with my partners. I had to make ice cream with them. What they used to make the ice cream was milk, vanilla extract, sugar, and ice) Venice and Jasmine put all the ingredients into a bag and sealed it then put the bag into another bag filled with ice and salt, to get the ice cream to not be liquid anymore they sealed it and shook the bag with the ice cream inside and kept shaking until they got the texture they wanted. We also got to pick jobs we wanted for the project. I got to help with the cleaning in Andrews room with my partners Lourdes, maddie, Gustavo, and Ericka. Dorothea 1,000 words:Personal: When I look at this photo I see a hard working man. He looks very tired. “I have worked all my life and all I have now is my broken body” I find what he said very impactful. What I find interesting is how society changed over the years. He looks like a very hard working man that deserves more than what he haves. In this photo it looks like it was a very hot day and he looks like he has been working every day, doing more then his body can handle. This man looks like he has been working hard his whole life to take care of his loved ones. But what he has been doing might not have been enough for him and his loved ones. Or he could have been by himself with no family and no one to take care of him.He might have been by himself his whole life working hard to survive.
Emotional: This photo gives off an aura of sadness and loneliness. He looks broken and sad. He looks like he was working hard for something and just lost hope. “I have worked all my life and all I have now is my broken body.” I find what he said to be very impactful because just by looking at the picture I could see that he is a working man that is going through a lot. He might have family or he might not have any family. If he does have any family he might be working hard for them and if he doesn't then he is working to survive on what he makes. This photo shows how the lower class was struggling during the great depression by showing it in every picture she has taken. In this picture you can see the struggle he was going through just by looking at his face. When i look at his face i see what other people might have gone through during the great depression. The way i see him i see sadness, loneliness, and loss of hope. I feel like this is what other people have been feeling during the great depression. This is what i feel is important to know about during the great depression. Historical: After a fall in stock prices that began around september 4,1929. And became worldwide news with the stock mark of october 29, 1929. The depression originated in the united states. After a fall stock market crash in october 29, 1929. With banks failing and businesses closing, more than 15 million Americans became unemployed. In most countries the Great Depression started in 1929 and lasted until the late 1930s.Some economies started to recover by the mid-1930s. However, in many countries, the negative effects of the Great Depression lasted until the beginning of World War II. Some of the economy would not fully turn around until after 1939.The Depression caused major political changes in America. The Depression also resulted in an increase of emigration of people to other countries for the first time in American history. For example, some immigrants went back to their native countries, and some native US citizens went to Canada, Australia, and South Africa. Gender: The Great Depression affected women and men in many different ways. Women for primarily worked as Clerical workers, teachers, nurses, telephone operators and these jobs tended to continue during the 1930s. Employers lowered pay scales for women workers, or even, in the case of teachers, failed to pay their workers on time. In 1930, approximately 10.5 million women worked outside the home. By 1940, approximately 13 million women worked for wages outside the home. Many new deal job programs cast women in traditional housekeeping roles. For men, while women stayed home men were out looking for jobs or struggling to keep his current job. As a result the average male man came home at the end of the day exhausted and mentally drained. Many men suffered from self-esteem issues and insecurities because the average ideal of men during that time period was as the “breadwinners” of the house since men were out looking for jobs while they were desperate for work to provide for their families again. While women were household they kept the house together and kept everything in place this is why men had self-esteem issues and insecurities. They didn’t have jobs they couldn’t be able to support families without one so they have to find new jobs to support their families. week 14We got to go on a camping trip to lake cuyamaca to take astrophotography pictures. I had so much fun because that was my first time going camping and I really enjoyed it. When we where there my group and I went to many different areas of the camp site to take out photos. The equipment we used for our photos was a T2i camera, flashlight, and a tripod. We had to stay up to four hours to take our Milky Way shot. So we had to be ready to take it at around 10:45. We also got to take landscape pictures, I really liked how those turned out.
week 14This week we had a lot of open work time and during open work time we planned our trip to lake cuyamaca. We are going on this trip to take astrophotography pictures. My group and I want to take landscape pictures and we also want to capture the Milky Way. So we did some research on how and what time we can get a picture of the Milky Way. A couple of our friends were planning on taking pictures of the Milky Way so they helped us by showing us what we needed to know. This whole week we planned on what to bring on the trip with us. My friends and I assigned things each of us should bring on the trip with us so we had everything we needed.
Humanities and ChemistryThis week for both humanities and chemistry we focused on what kind of our photography we want to take on our trip to Lake Cuyamaca. My group and I are planning on getting the Milky Way and landscape pictures. The Milky Way starts to rise at 11:00pm and will be right above our us at 3:00am, that's when we have to take our picture to get a good picture of the Milky Way. We have to be facing between East and North East and we'll locate the galaxy by finding the constellation Cygnus.
week 12This week we got to print more photos to epoxy them. We didn't get to print mine out today because there wasn't enough time. We read the first chapter from the book Light by Bruce Watson to get inspiration for our writing. In humanities we wrote an essay about how scientists, artists, and philosophers work can lead to wonder and curiosity. This week in chemistry my class made slime out of glue, borax, food coloring, and water. While doing this they got to learn how control different ingredients when making experiments.
Final draft landscape photo:
Humanities
How does the work of scientists, artists, and philosophers lead to wonder and curiosity?
Chemistry• How does epoxy work?
When making epoxy, you have to use the ratio 1/1 using resin and hardener. The mixture will be split in half between to the two ingredients. On a chemical level, the catalyst (hardener) is altering the chemical chain of the resin, creating a chemical reaction to occur, at the same time, setting the resin.
The polymerization process is when all of the monomers connect together creating macromolecules in all different shapes and sizes.
Week 11This week we got to print metallic photos and are learning how to epoxy photos. This week we started to print our final landscape photo in metallic paper and started to epoxy the pictures. I decided what photo I want I to use. When we started to epoxy photos during this week we made a mistake by mixing the epoxy to soon witch caused the epoxy to harden onto the photo while we we still spreading it. Now we know not to mix to soon and wait longer because then it'll harden faster.
Humanities• what does each step play?
1. THE PHOTO
Having your photo being high quality plays a big role while processing. Depending on what camera you took it one whether it was an actual camera or your phone affects how high quality your photo will turn out to be. When putting your photo onto a 13 x 19 piece of wood, you don't want your photo to be pixelated. 2. PROCESSING THE PHOTO
Putting your photo into Photoshop can help you get your photo just the way you want it. You can adjust the contrast, brightness, and saturation/colors. Also putting your photo into Lightroom to De-noise your photo, which mean making it less pixelated. 3. METALLIC PHOTO PAPER
Printing your photo onto metallic paper gives your photo more vibrancy. It brings out more of the highlights from your photo. It gives the photo a glistening effect. 4. EPOXY TOP COAT
Applying the epoxy top coat to your photo will add a glass light feel. It makes it look more put together, clean, and adds more depth to your photo. It helps reduce a glare effect from the sun and from getting sun damage. It helps the photo stay in it's true colors and form for a long time. Chemistry• How does each step of the process involve and/ or change light? Each part of the process affects light differently. When you are taking a photo the lighting can change the colors, contrast, quality, and exposure for the image. The epoxy top coat blocks the glare on your photo from direct lighting and also blocks harmful light rays that cause photo to fade.
• Why is it important to frame and exhibit work?
It is important to frame and exhibit work because when you frame your work it makes it look more compete and finish so other people can see what you've woken hard on. Exhibiting the work you've done can help you a lot in the future because more people can come and see it and they might also want to buy it.
Week seventhis week we worked in Adams room and Andrew wasn't here. In humanities we learned about Owens valley, Hetch Hetchy, and more. This week we did a seminar on a prompt are the wealthy people responsible for the poor people/ pay higher taxes for them and if we were responsible our own American dream. This week in chemistry, we made hydrogen balloons we put hydrogen in a tube and broke up pieces of metal to get a reaction, after that we put the balloon on the top and it started inflating.
